Care

Faith that's real. People who care.

Care is important here, and Pastor Moreno is the one that you will want to connect with for spiritual care, especially in times of hardship. You can contact him HERE.
Our Board of Elders serves as an extension of the pastor’s office to care for members. We also have three wonderful care ministries that can be a blessing to you: Stephen Ministry, Prayer Ministry, and the Amazing Graces.

The Ways We Care

Stephen Ministry

Family of Christ's Stephen Ministers offer high-quality, confidential, one-to-one Christian care to our congregation and community. We help people going through tough times such as grieving over the death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, separation due to military deployment, and much more.  When life’s troubles seem overwhelming, a Stephen Minister can be there to walk with you.

So what does a Stephen Minister do exactly?
  • Your Stephen Minister will walk beside you in your struggle, no matter how tough it is. They will remain by your side as a reminder that Christ is with you always.
  • Stephen Ministers are matched with care receivers of the same gender; men with men, women with women.
  • They meet in person at least once a week for about an hour. As necessary, face-to-face meetings are augmented with email, phone calls, and/or text exchanges. They listen and ask reflective questions to ensure understanding of the care receiver’s needs; they do not offer solutions.
  • Stephen Ministers keep personal information confidential. You can feel free to share with your Stephen Minister without worrying that everyone else will know about it. The only time Stephen Ministers may legally break confidentiality is when suicide, homicide, or physical abuse is suspected or imminent.
  • They pray with their care receivers and read from the Bible as necessary.
  • Stephen Ministers do not offer legal, medical, or financial advice

Stephen Ministers are the “caregivers” for their “care receivers,” but only God is the “Cure Giver.”
Our Stephen Ministry Team at Family of Christ is dedicated to putting God's love in action. Please use the Contact Form at the bottom of the page if you would like more information about connecting with a Stephen Minister.

Join Stephen Ministry
Family of Christ's Stephen Ministers have helped over 65 congregation and community members since 2016. They are an extension of our church's pastoral support, meeting prayerfully once a week with their Care Receivers for diverse issues and challenges. With all the troubles in the world, we need more volunteers to join us. To become a Stephen Minister, you will complete an intense course of Christ-centered training including reading, lectures, devotions, videos, and skill practices to prepare you for this ministry. These essential relational caring skills provide insights into the thoughts, feelings, actions, and needs of people who are hurting. You will be commissioned into this lay ministry at Family of Christ. Twice a month, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing education.

Prayer Ministry

We have an amazing Prayer Ministry here at Family of Christ that prays over our church on a daily basis. The members of the Prayer Team are available every Sunday morning at the front of the Worship Center to pray with those who need it. If you could use prayers for any reason, we encourage you to make your way to the front at the end of our Sunday services and talk to one of our prayer team members in the purple lanyards. They would love the opportunity to pray with you and get to know you better.
Interested in joining our prayer team? Let us know in the Contact Form below!

They also oversee our Prayer Vigil, which takes place annually in the fall.
This year, the Prayer Vigil is on September 11th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm in our Worship Center. You can fill out your prayer requests and drop them in the collection baskets every Sunday morning throughout August.
Every single prayer is read aloud and prayed over. It’s a wonderful, reverent way to deeply connect with God’s community and the power of prayer. We encourage people of all ages to come and pray with us!

Amazing Graces

Amazing Graces is here to minister to those grieving the loss of a loved one by hosting funeral receptions. Dealing with the loss of a loved one is hard. Amazing Graces works with our pastors and staff to help plan funeral receptions. They have set menus depending on the time of day of the funeral. They set up the reception area, serve food and drinks, and handle all the cleanup.

The Sunshine Bunch

The Sunshine Bunch has been doing cards and candy bags for the assisted living facilities in Monument for the past several years. We have also delivered cards to some of our members in other Colorado Springs assisted living facilities.

We have moved toward some in-person events such as Christmas caroling, Christmas cookie decorating, and tea and cookie parties. This fall, we are planning a fondue (cheese and chocolate) get-together at both Monument Assisted Living Facilities.
